Birgunj (Parsa), Jan 31: The Birgunj Customs Office in Parsa recorded food imports worth Rs 11.57 billion in the first half of the current fiscal year 2082/83 BS (2025–26).
According to information officer Uday Singh Bista, the volume of food imports during the review period was slightly lower than in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
Of the total imports over the past six months, 150,430,000 kilograms of rice worth Rs 5.68 billion were imported. In the same period last year, rice imports stood at Rs 6.9 billion. Overall, food imports in the first six months of the last fiscal year amounted to Rs 11.78 billion, marginally higher than the current fiscal year’s figure.
Similarly, maize worth Rs 3.41 billion was imported in the first half of the current fiscal year. Rice imports amounted to Rs 1.61 billion, while malt imports were valued at Rs 330 million. Imports of buckwheat, millet, and other grains totaled Rs 237.03 million.
