‘Build positive narrative on foreign employment’

Kathmandu, Jan 22: Irrespective of significant contribution to national economy, the foreign employment has not been recognized in a way it deserves a positive narrative.
Stakeholders have expressed worry over not building a positive narrative towards the foreign employment.

At a programme organized by the National Network for Safe Migration on ‘Deconstruction of Narrative on Foreign Employment’ on Thursday, the speakers said it was time to explore positive sides of the foreign employment rather than indulging in negative narrative. In the programme attended by journalists and human rights advocates, Network Chairman Krishna Prasad Neupane said those opting for foreign employment should be regarded from a humanitarian lens.

“Opting for foreign job is not a crime. The state must utilize the skills and knowledge the returnee migrants bring into the country,” he stressed.

Journalist Babita Basnet made a presentation on media perspective towards foreign employment. She argued the media has not painted positively to those going for overseas job.

Chairperson of the Paurakhi Nepal, Satra Kumari Gurung, shared discrimination she faced while she returned home from foreign employment. Even the society does not regard the foreign returnee migrant women. Considering this, the Paurakhi Nepal had launched a campaign.

It is urgent to ensure dignity and human rights to those involved in foreign employment.
