Kathmandu, Dec 25: CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli has stressed the need to create an election-friendly atmosphere.
Speaking at a party programme here today, he echoed the need for ensuring a peaceful environment for the election. “If this is ensured, the party will participate in the election,” he said.
According to Oli, an election-friendly environment cannot be created amid fear and insecurity. He said it is the responsibility of the government to address security challenges in view of the election announced for March 5.
The former Prime Minister added that he attended a recent meeting convened by President Ramchandra Paudel, where he made it clear that the party is not against the election but does not support any regressive move.
He took time to argue that it would not be appropriate to seek clarifications from the then Prime Minister and Home Ministers regarding the September 8 security actions, as the security forces took such actions by assessing the situation so as to protect public property and for self-defense.
