UML never evades elections: General Secretary Pokharel

Lumbini, Nov 17: CPN (UML) General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said that UML will never evade elections.

He stated that his party is the one that places the greatest trust in the ‘mandate’ of the public. During a programme held today in Butwal by Press Chautari Nepal, General Secretary Pokharel noted that the government’s actions and initiatives should be centered on the elections scheduled for March 5, yet this focus has not been observed.

He further proposed that the most suitable method to address the political crisis currently facing the nation is to restore the Parliament. According to Secretary General Pokharel, to steer the country along a constitutional path, the House of Representatives must be reinstated, constitutional amendments should cater to the demands of the youth, and it would be feasible to proceed to ‘early’ elections.

He referred to the incidents of September 8 and 9 as the outcome of a deliberate conspiracy, stressing the need for a thorough investigation.

On another note, referring to the forthcoming general convention of the UML, he indicated that the convention will select competent leadership based on a consensus.
