Barcelona suffer first La Liga defeat after 4–1 thrashing by Sevilla

Agency, Oct 6: FC Barcelona endured their first loss of the La Liga season after falling 4–1 to Sevilla on Sunday night, missing a golden opportunity to move to the top of the league table.

The clash at Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán saw Sevilla deliver a commanding performance, with Alexis Sánchez, Isaac Romero, José Ángel Carmona, and Akor Adams each getting on the scoresheet.

Sánchez opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 13th minute, setting the tone for the hosts. Romero doubled the lead in the 36th minute with a clinical strike, leaving Barcelona struggling to find their rhythm.

Just before halftime, Marcus Rashford gave Barcelona hope with a goal in added time, narrowing the deficit to 2–1. However, the Catalans squandered a golden chance to equalize in the 76th minute when Robert Lewandowski failed to convert a penalty.

Sevilla regained full control late in the game, with Carmona scoring in the 90th minute and Adams adding the finishing touch deep into stoppage time to complete a memorable 4–1 victory.

The win lifted Sevilla to sixth place in the standings with 13 points from eight matches, while Barcelona remain second on 19 points, missing out on the chance to reclaim the top spot.
