Agriculture Minister Ramnath Adhikari Resigns

Kathmandu, Sept 9:  Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Ramnath Adhikari has stepped down from his post, citing the government’s authoritarian response to Monday’s Gen-Z protests.

In his resignation letter submitted on Tuesday, Adhikari said that instead of respecting citizens’ democratic rights to question the government and protest peacefully, the state resorted to widespread repression, violence, and killings. Such actions, he argued, signal a drift toward authoritarian rule rather than democracy.

Adhikari further stated that he could not continue in power without questioning how the state had come to treat the very generation essential for nation-building as though it were an enemy in war.
