Kathmandu, Sept 8:  Gen Z is staging a peaceful protest in the capital today against the government’s ban on social media platforms and the deep-rooted corruption and irregularities in the country.

The demonstration is set to begin at 11 a.m. at Maitighar Mandala, from where participants will march towards the Everest Hotel in New Baneshwor. Organizers have emphasized that the protest will remain peaceful.

The move follows the government’s decision to disable platforms including Facebook. In response, Gen Z has announced that it will take to the streets “against corruption and all prevailing malpractices in the country.”

Gen Z generally refers to those born between 1997 and 2012, and today’s protest will include youths up to the age of 28.

The protest, organized by Nepalese Students for Justice, has also garnered support from various organizations and individuals. Organizers have called on students to attend in uniform and carry identity cards as a symbolic act to demand an end to corruption and misgovernance in Nepal.
