Gorkha, Feb 17: A heavy snowfall has been taking place in the Nubri Valley of the northern Gorkha since last night. According to local Nima Lama, this is the first time the area witnessed the significant snowfall of this season, following a prolonged dryness. Two days ago, the area experienced a lighter snowfall.
The areas covering Samdo, the northeast belt of Gorkha, as well as Samagaun and Sylala in the lower region have observed the snowfall that has been accumulated up to around one feet on the ground.
The snowfall has affected the life, causing interruptions in telephone and internet services supported by solar power.
Tourist guide Surya Khanal said tourists from home and abroad in the areas have remained affected. “We have had to delay our trip to the Larke Pass,” he said. Additionally, tourists aspiring to climb Mount Manaslu have remained stuck in Samdo due to adverse weather.
Despite the challenges, locals are welcoming the snowfall. While it has caused difficulties, they hope it will benefit their crops. Barley, potatoes, and buckwheat are key agricultural products in Samagaun and Samdo.
Towards the Chum Valley, the weather remains partly to generally cloudy.—
