Kathmandu, July 20: A total of 166 people have lost their lives to natural disasters in various parts of the country over the past four months since mid-April.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, 3,435 disaster incidents were recorded during the period, leaving 166 dead and 988 others injured.
The Authority said that 6,531 households have been affected by the disasters. Among those incidents, the cases of fire topped the list with 914 cases, followed by 535 of cases of snake bites, 495 landslides, 478 storms, 229 lightning strikes, 190 animal attacks, 171 floods, 166 incidents of heavy rainfall, 55 of altitude sickness, four hailstorms, two avalanches, one boat capsizing, and four other disaster-related incidents.
In addition, 191 fires incidents of forest fire were also reported during the review period.
Meanwhile, 58 disaster incidents were recorded across the country in the 24-hour period between July 18 and 19. The incidents claimed three lives and left 13 people injured, while 45 districts were affected.
