Kathmandu: Scholars on the Sino-Nepal relations and political leaderships have univocally underscored the need to extend the ties between the Nepal and China at people-to-people level.
At a webinar jointly organized by the Sammunati Foundation Nepal and Charhar Institute of China on the occasion of 66th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China on Sunday, the participants viewed that the people-to-people relations should be accorded highest priority by the both countries.
Former Nepali Ambassador to China Dr Mahesh Maskey, former vice-president of the National Planning Commission Dr Pitambar Sharma, Professor Dr Yuwaraj Shangraula and deputy executive director at the Institute of Foreign Affairs Dr Rupak Sapkota also viewed that Nepal should benefit from China’s ‘Belt and Road Initiatives’ (BRI).
Likewise, Chinese scholars from Charhar Institute presented their views on various dynamics of Sino-Nepal ties. Dr Maskey held his view on various aspects of Sino-Nepal relations and Dr Sharma on BRI. Prof Dr Shangraula had presented a paper on the current situation of Afghanistan and its effect on the South Asia including Nepal.
Likewise, former Chinese ambassador to Nepal Qui Guohong opined that the ties of Sino-Nepal should be expanded in the new circumstances. Another Chinese scholar presented his views about the elements that could affect Nepal-China ties and how to remain alert about them.
Over 100 participants had presented their views in the webinar who had discussed on the scope and areas of cooperation between the two countries, said Sammunati Foundation’s General Secretary Hariraj Adhikari.
