{"id":8474,"date":"2024-09-06T14:11:20","date_gmt":"2024-09-06T08:26:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nepalsamaj.com\/en\/?p=8474"},"modified":"2024-09-06T14:11:20","modified_gmt":"2024-09-06T08:26:20","slug":"at-least-17-children-killed-in-kenya-school-fire-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nepalsamaj.com\/en\/at-least-17-children-killed-in-kenya-school-fire-police\/","title":{"rendered":"At least 17 children killed in Kenya school fire: police"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>At least 17 pupils have died after a fire ripped through their school dormitory overnight in central Kenya, police said Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The blaze in Nyeri county&#8217;s Hillside Endarasha Academy broke out at around midnight, police said, engulfing a dormitory where the children were sleeping.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are 17 fatalities from this incident and there are also others who were taken to hospital with serious injuries,&#8221; said national police spokesperson Resila Onyango.<\/p>\n<p>Police did not release the ages of the victims.\u00a0&#8220;The bodies recovered at the scene were burnt beyond recognition,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Several others were injured, Onyango said, 16 of them seriously, and had been rushed to a nearby hospital.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;More bodies are likely to be recovered once (the) scene is fully processed,&#8221; she said.\u00a0The cause of the fire remains unknown, she said, but an investigation had been launched.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At least 17 pupils have died after a fire ripped through their school dormitory overnight in central Kenya, police said Friday.
