{"id":57711,"date":"2026-11-02T18:00:46","date_gmt":"2026-11-02T12:15:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nepalsamaj.com\/en\/?p=57711"},"modified":"2026-11-02T18:00:46","modified_gmt":"2026-11-02T12:15:46","slug":"opposition-parties-demand-immediate-convening-of-parliaments-winter-session","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nepalsamaj.com\/en\/opposition-parties-demand-immediate-convening-of-parliaments-winter-session\/","title":{"rendered":"Opposition Parties Demand Immediate Convening of Parliament\u2019s Winter Session"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Kathmandu, Nov, 2: Opposition parties have called on the government to convene the winter session of Parliament without delay, stressing the need for parliamentary discussions on recent political and governance-related issues.<\/p>\n<p>A meeting of opposition parties convened on Monday at the initiative of the main opposition Nepali Congress decided to urge the government to summon the parliamentary session at the earliest.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting concluded that recent government activities were contrary to public sentiment and that several pressing issues required serious discussion in Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the meeting, Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader Bhishmaraj Angdembe said the opposition had decided to approach the Speaker and ruling parties to press for an immediate call of the parliamentary session.<\/p>\n<p>According to Angdembe, the meeting discussed recent controversies involving Inam Sapkota and alleged middlemen, as well as issues that have brought the judiciary into public debate. Opposition leaders stressed that the facts surrounding these matters should be examined through parliamentary discussions.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting also raised concerns over the appointment of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and police crackdowns involving media outlets and journalists.<\/p>\n<p>Angdembe said the meeting had also discussed the incident in Kaptanganj, Sunsari, the non-publication of a report concerning the Home Minister\u2019s assets, and the government&#8217;s alleged attempt to govern through ordinances.<\/p>\n<p>He argued that the increasing use of ordinances had raised questions about the relevance of Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Nepal Communist Party (NCP) lawmaker Pramesh Hamal said the meeting discussed post-disaster reconstruction, national sovereignty, democracy, constitutional concerns and issues affecting the public.<\/p>\n<p>He said opposition parties had concluded that Parliament should be convened to hold serious discussions amid growing concerns over attempts by vested interest groups to influence state power.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kathmandu, Nov, 2: Opposition parties have called on the government to convene the winter session of Parliament without delay, stressing the need for parliamentary discussions on recent political and governance-related issues.
