Kathmandu, Oct 27: Two matches are scheduled for the second day of the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) on Tuesday. Biratnagar Kings will take on Chitwan Rhinos in the opening match, while Karnali Yaks will face Janakpur Bolts in the second game.

The first match will begin at 12:30 PM, followed by the second at 4:30 PM at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. All four teams will be aiming to kick off their campaigns with a victory.

Biratnagar Kings, who reached the playoffs last season, will be looking to go a step further and claim the title this time around. The franchise has strengthened its squad with several high-profile overseas signings, including Andre Russell, Charith Asalanka, Shehan Jayasuriya and Angelo Mathews.

Led by Nepal national team captain Sandeep Lamichhane, Biratnagar also boasts domestic talents such as Basir Ahmad, Pratish GC and Lokesh Bam. With a blend of experienced international stars and promising Nepali players, Biratnagar will be eager to establish itself as a strong contender for the championship.

Chitwan Rhinos, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back after failing to meet expectations in the previous two editions. Chitwan reached the Eliminator in the inaugural season but suffered an early exit in the league stage last year.

The franchise has brought in experienced Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza for the new season. Led by all-rounder Kushal Malla, Chitwan has also retained last season’s players Ravi Bopara and Dawid Malan while signing Kaleem Sana.

The team will also rely on the contributions of Nepali players Dev Khanal, Arjun Saud, Vivek Kumar Yadav, Rijan Dhakal, Mausam Dhakal and Kamal Singh Airee. Chitwan will hope that its combination of international experience and local talent can help it mount a stronger challenge this season.

Janakpur and Karnali Look for Fresh Starts

In the day’s second match, inaugural champions Janakpur Bolts will face Karnali Yaks, with both teams eager to put last season’s disappointing performances behind them.

Janakpur endured a difficult campaign last year, managing just one victory in seven matches while suffering six defeats. The former champions finished at the bottom of the standings and will be determined to make a strong comeback this season.

Karnali also struggled in the previous edition, winning only two of their seven matches to finish sixth in the standings. The franchise will be aiming for a more consistent campaign and a place in the playoffs this time around.

Karnali have signed Bangladesh’s Akbar Ali and Ariful Islam as overseas players. The franchise also recruited Pakistan’s Hussain Talat and Sahibzada Farhan, but both players will miss Tuesday’s match after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) declined to issue them No Objection Certificates (NOCs).

With all four teams eager to begin their campaigns on a winning note, Tuesday’s double-header promises an exciting day of cricket as the race for the NPL title gathers momentum.
