Kathmandu, Sept 30: Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal has said that Nepal’s participation in the 81st UN General Assembly has achieved an important milestone for the country’s interests.
\nUpon his arrival home after attending the General Assembly meeting, Foreign Minister Khanal told journalists at Tribhuvan International Airport today that he has been working day and night to enhance Nepal’s diplomatic image and attract the attention of the international community.<\/p>\n

He said that the international community was positive about the views and statements presented on behalf of Nepal during various events, meetings and discussions held in the context of the United Nations General Assembly.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s address to the General Assembly, along with my participation and discussions in various bilateral and multilateral meetings, have boosted Nepal’s diplomatic image. It is a matter of joy for the country that the international community has responded positively to Nepal’s proposal,\u201d the Foreign Affairs Minister said.<\/p>\n

He informed that more than 33 bilateral meetings were held in the course of participating in the General Assembly, and expressed his belief that this would help strengthen Nepal’s diplomatic relations.<\/p>\n

Foreign Minister Khanal mentioned that clear foundations have been set to strengthen Nepal’s diplomacy in the coming days and make a solid contribution to promoting national interest. He shared that this time at the United Nations General Assembly, Nepal strongly raised issues including climate justice on the global stage.<\/p>\n

Minister Khanal said it is a matter of pride for Nepal that there was mention and praise that Nepal clearly and firmly expressed its views during the general assembly on the devastating flood of Bhotekoshi and other national and international issues.<\/p>\n

He mentioned that Prime Minister Shah explicitly voiced about climate change and its impact on Nepal and other affected countries during his address.<\/p>\n

Minister Khanal said, \u201cEven before the Prime Minister addressed the General Assembly, there was equal interest inside and outside the country. It became clear that the world’s attention remained on the PM’s speech even after his speech. Among this year’s addresses at the United Nations General Assembly, this one has so far received the most views.\u201d<\/p>\n

He stated that Prime Minister Shah through his address to the UNGA and he himself in various other forums and meetings clearly put forth Nepal’s situation and the impact of climate change.
