Kathmandu, Sept 15:<\/strong> Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal has clarified that the current government is fully committed to practicing its foreign policy by placing Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, national security, and long-term national interests at the center.<\/p>\n

Speaking at today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Foreign Minister Khanal said that the expression “old baggage” was not directed at Nepal’s dignified history, national heritage, sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence, the protection of national interests, or the preservation of historical documents.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, MP Sita Thapaliya raised questions regarding the Foreign Minister’s statement made during his visit to India that the “current government does not carry old baggage.” She sought clarification on the meaning of this phrase, asking which decisions of previous governments constituted “baggage,” whether the decision to incorporate the map of Nepal\u2014including Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura\u2014into the Constitution was considered “old baggage,” and what errors had been made in the foreign policies of past governments.<\/p>\n

Responding to these questions, Foreign Minister Khanal reiterated the government’s full commitment to adopting a foreign policy with a focus on Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, national security, and long-term national interests. Noting that Nepal has always accorded high priority to relations with neighboring and friendly nations, he expressed his belief that high-level visits play a crucial role in further strengthening bilateral ties with these countries.<\/p>\n

Minister Khanal stated that Nepal’s political map incorporating Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura and the Parliament’s unanimous decision to amend the Constitution to endorse it represents the shared national resolve of the entire Nepali people. “This is our constitutional and sovereign document, which cannot be viewed as a ‘burden’ in any context,” he said. Minister Khanal emphasized that upholding the nation’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, national unity, autonomy, border security, and dignity is the paramount and enduring responsibility of any government.<\/p>\n

Stating that the current government seeks to steer relations with neighboring and friendly nations in a transformative direction based on mutual equality, respect, trust, and economic partnership, the Foreign Minister noted that it is the clear vision of the current government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to achieve the country’s economic prosperity through clear, mature, and result-oriented diplomacy that prioritizes national interests above all else.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
