The majority of the world&#8217;s high-performance open-source large language models come from China, with total downloads exceeding 10 billion, ranking first globally.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0The impact is tangible. The open-source approach of Chinese AI models offers cost-effective solutions for businesses worldwide, including U.S. firms. On OpenRouter, a leading global AI platform, top five of the most popular models in July were all from China. Well-known American companies, including Airbnb and Pinterest, as well as European automakers, have been using Chinese large models to optimize their operations and products.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 More significantly, Chinese AI models are lowering barriers for developers and enterprises in developing countries, allowing them to accelerate digital transformation on their own terms. By building atop the foundation of Chinese open-weight models, local developers can create tailored products, provide localized services and retain data sovereignty, just like building houses of their own rather than renting space in someone else&#8217;s walled garden.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>For instance, Chinese companies have developed Arabic language AI models to help common Arabic speakers use digital technologies more conveniently through native speech generation.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 Meteorological departments in more than 40 countries have used China&#8217;s AI-driven MAZU model for early weather warning services via the cloud, with customized versions deployed in seven countries, including Pakistan, Ethiopia and the Solomon Islands. A long list of such cooperation endeavors proves that Chinese AI models are effective, safe and affordable.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 So why do some Western politicians still fabricate negative accusations? Behind these rhetorics lie strategic anxiety and an outdated zero-sum mentality. Ironically, the very models they have accused of threatening U.S. interests are now defended by U.S. industry as vital to its own innovation ecosystem. U.S. tech companies and startups, including Nvidia, Microsoft and Meta, have jointly released a letter urging policymakers not to impose restrictions on open-weight models, stating that these models can strengthen competition and ensure that the benefits of technology are widely shared rather than concentrated in the hands of a few.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>AI should be a common asset of all humanity. Its development should not be a solo performance by any single country or vested interest groups, but a symphony of global cooperation. China has always been committed to making AI an international public good, striving to bridge the global intelligence gap via open-source sharing, technological empowerment and global governance cooperation.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0The political maneuvers of a few cannot stop the trend of technological accessibility benefiting the entire humanity.
