Kathmandu, Aug 26: Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and properties in downstream areas, including Rasuwa, caused by the massive flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River.<\/p>\n

He stated that the government has engaged its coordinated efforts for relief and rescue operations.
\nInforming the House on the latest situation of the disaster on behalf of the government, he said the government is coordinating for relief at national and international levels.<\/p>\n

In today\u2019s meeting of the House of Representatives, Minister Khanal stated that 26 police officials and nine armed police personnel, along with 44 from the Nepal Army, are missing, including those stationed at Rasuwa, Trishuli and other police posts.<\/p>\n

According to him, some officials at Rasuwagadhi customs checkpoint and immigration offices are also still out of contact. Some local people from the affected areas are also yet to be reachable.
\nAccording to Minister Khanal, nine bodies have been so far found in the flash flood affected areas and identification is still underway.<\/p>\n

He informed that the disaster caused significant damages to physical infrastructure, including roads, bridges, hydropower, and communication systems.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is also a sizeable damage to both government and private buildings and property,\u201d he said.
\n“Local authorities, administration, and the general public are requested not to travel through Galchhi along the Prithvi Highway, Syafrubaesi road in Nuwakot and Rasuwa, and Mugling-Narayangadh road.”<\/p>\n

He informed that the local administration has been instructed to completely restrict transportation and other movement at risk-prone areas, keeping safety of citizens at the center.<\/p>\n

Minister Khanal shared that 13 helicopters, including those from the Nepal Army and private sector, have been deployed in Rasuwa and Nuwakot to speed up the search and rescue operations.
\nHe also stated that additional air and ground rescue resources will be deployed in the flood hit and affected areas as needed.<\/p>\n

A health team including 15 doctors from the Nepal Army, 12 from Nepal Police, and 15 from Armed Police Force has been sent to the District Hospital in Nuwakot for treating injured citizens, it is informed.<\/p>\n

For the treatment of seriously injured patients, five health facilities, including Trauma Center at Bir Hospital and Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, have been kept standby.
\nInforming the House, Minister Khanal said that an additional Rs 10 million has been released for the District Disaster Management Fund of Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, and Rs 5 million for Dhading district.<\/p>\n

The government, according to Minister Khanal, is fully attentive to protect the lives of affected citizens, and carry out search and rescue, treatment, relief, and safe relocation.
\nCoordination with the northern neighbor China regarding disasters and potential risks is underway, Khanal informed.<\/p>\n
