{"id":52941,"date":"2026-08-13T14:11:23","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T08:26:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nepalsamaj.com\/en\/?p=52941"},"modified":"2026-08-13T14:11:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T08:26:23","slug":"fnj-demands-immediate-release-of-journalist-shrestha","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nepalsamaj.com\/en\/fnj-demands-immediate-release-of-journalist-shrestha\/","title":{"rendered":"FNJ demands immediate release of journalist Shrestha"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Kathmandu, Aug 13: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has demanded immediate release of senior journalist and chief editor of &#8216;Jana Aastha&#8217; weekly, Kishor Shrestha.<\/p>\n<p>Protesting the arrest of former Acting Chairperson of Press Council Nepal, Shrestha, from his Kusunti-based residence on Wednesday night by a team of Kathmandu Police Range, the FNJ demanded Shrestha&#8217;s immediate release.<\/p>\n<p>A press release issued today by FNJ General-Secretary, Ram Prasad Dahal, condemned Shrestha&#8217;s arrest, stating that it is against press freedom and freedom of expression, journalist code of conduct and constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Demanding Shrestha&#8217;s release, journalists have been staging sit-in in front of Kathmandu District Police Range, Bhadrakali, from today morning at the call of the FNJ.<\/p>\n<p>Different organisations related to mass communication have also requested to release journalist Shrestha, protesting his arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Nepal Police have clarified that Shrestha was arrested after acquiring permission from court based on the complaint related to personal privacy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kathmandu, Aug 13: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has demanded immediate release of senior journalist and chief editor of &#8216;Jana Aastha&#8217; weekly, Kishor Shrestha.
