He was 93.<\/p>\n<p>Born in \u200bNagano in 1932, Suzuki joined retailer Ito-Yokado \u200bin 1963 after working at a book \u2060wholesaler. Defying scepticism at the time, Suzuki \u200bpartnered with Southland Corp, the U.S. operator of \u200b7-Eleven, to launch Seven-Eleven Japan in 1973, opening the first store in Tokyo the following year.<br \/>\nHe pioneered the use \u200bof data to tailor inventory and built \u200ba business model centred on ready-to-eat meals and rapid inventory \u200cturnover, \u2060helping transform convenience stores into a cornerstone of Japan&#8217;s retail landscape.<\/p>\n<p>Suzuki also led the successful restructuring and rescue of Southland in the early 1990s \u200bafter the \u200b7-Eleven parent \u2060filed for bankruptcy due to massive debt from a leveraged buyout.<\/p>\n<p>went \u200bon to establish Seven &amp; i Holdings \u200bin \u20602005 and oversaw its expansion into a retail conglomerate.
