The event is organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Nepal.<\/p>\n<p>During the inaugural ceremony held at the Kamaladi-based Nepal Academy, the President paid homage to Lord Jagannath.<\/p>\n<p>According to ISKCON&#8217;s secretary Rupeshwor Gauravdas, the organisation hosts the festival every year on the second day of the bright fortnight of the month of Asadh.<\/p>\n<p>This date commemorates the mythical event when the Gopinis, devotees of Shri Krishna, escorted him from Dwarka to Brindaban on a chariot.<\/p>\n<p>The festival, which has been observed in Nepal since 1977, also takes place in 165 countries worldwide today.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kathmandu, July 7: President Ramchandra Paudel today inaugurated a religious chariot procession (Jagannath Rathyatra Mahotsav).
