{"id":42162,"date":"2026-02-12T13:43:20","date_gmt":"2026-02-12T07:58:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nepalsamaj.com\/en\/?p=42162"},"modified":"2026-02-12T13:43:20","modified_gmt":"2026-02-12T07:58:20","slug":"adb-appoints-sona-shrestha-as-director-general-for-south-asia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nepalsamaj.com\/en\/adb-appoints-sona-shrestha-as-director-general-for-south-asia\/","title":{"rendered":"ADB Appoints Sona Shrestha as Director General for South Asia"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>MANILA : The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has appointed Sona Shrestha as Director General of its South Asia Department (SARD), where she will lead the development and implementation of ADB\u2019s strategy and operations in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am honored to be appointed Director General of South Asia,\u201d said Ms. Shrestha. \u201cI look forward to working closely with our developing member countries in the region to further deepen ADB\u2019s engagement in support of inclusive and sustainable development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Shrestha is a seasoned development leader with over 27 years of professional experience, including 23 years at ADB. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Shrestha was Deputy Director General for SARD. She has also served as Deputy Director General of ADB\u2019s Independent Evaluations Department, Assistant Secretary, Director in the Financial Sector and Trade Division for Southeast Asia, and Deputy Country Director for Indonesia. In earlier professional roles in ADB, she gathered extensive operations experience across Central and West Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n<p>A national of Nepal, Ms. Shrestha holds doctorate and master\u2019s degrees in\u202feconomics from University of California in the United States. She also has a bachelor\u2019s degree in economics from Smith College, Massachusetts.<\/p>\n<p>ADB is a leading multilateral development bank supporting inclusive, resilient, and sustainable growth across Asia and the Pacific.
