{"id":37272,"date":"2025-12-10T14:21:26","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T08:36:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nepalsamaj.com\/en\/?p=37272"},"modified":"2025-12-10T14:21:26","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T08:36:26","slug":"fire-kills-12-in-south-china-residential-building-state-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nepalsamaj.com\/en\/fire-kills-12-in-south-china-residential-building-state-media\/","title":{"rendered":"Fire kills 12 in south China residential building: state media"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>A fire that broke out in a residential building in southern China killed 12 people, state media reported Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The blaze at the four-storey building in Shantou, Guangdong province, erupted around 9:20 pm on Tuesday, and was extinguished just after 10:00 pm, the local fire department said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>It comes after a huge blaze last month engulfed several high-rise residential towers in Hong Kong, neighbouring Guangdong, killing 160 people.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The building on fire was a four-storey self-built reinforced concrete structure,&#8221; the Chaonan District Fire and Rescue Team said, adding that the blaze had affected an area of 150 square metres (1,600 square feet).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Investigations into the cause of the fire and aftermath handling work are being conducted in an orderly manner,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>Initial reports on Wednesday morning had said eight were killed, with four injured taken to hospital.<\/p>\n<p>State media outlet Xinhua later said a total of 12 people had been killed.<br \/>\nThe deaths come after China launched a campaign against fire hazards in high-rise buildings following the Hong Kong blaze last month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A fire that broke out in a residential building in southern China killed 12 people, state media reported Wednesday.
