{"id":17556,"date":"2025-02-12T12:31:11","date_gmt":"2025-02-12T06:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nepalsamaj.com\/en\/?p=17556"},"modified":"2025-02-12T12:31:11","modified_gmt":"2025-02-12T06:46:11","slug":"bangladesh-cricketer-banned-for-five-years-for-corruption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nepalsamaj.com\/en\/bangladesh-cricketer-banned-for-five-years-for-corruption\/","title":{"rendered":"Bangladesh cricketer banned for five years for corruption"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Bangladesh international Shohely Akhter has been banned from all cricket for five years after admitting to five breaches of the ICC&#8217;s anti-corruption code, the sport&#8217;s governing body said.<\/p>\n<p>Akhter approached a fellow Bangladeshi player and offered her \u00a313,000 ($16,000) to be dismissed hit wicket at the Women&#8217;s T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The unnamed player reported Akhter, who was not involved in the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Najmul Abedin Fahim, Bangladesh Cricket Board director and head of the women&#8217;s wing, said Akhter&#8217;s actions were &#8220;unfortunate&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have zero tolerance in this regard and are trying hard to prevent fixing at all levels of Bangladesh cricket,&#8221; Fahim said.<\/p>\n<p>The 36-year-old spinner Akhter has played 13 T20s for her country and two ODIs.
