The dispute should be resolved through dialogue, it added.<\/p>\n<p>In a press statement issued by NHRC Spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel on Sunday, the human rights watch dog emphasized the need to make the protest peaceful.<br \/>\nIt may be noted that a clash between police and locals protesting the construction of cable car had ensued Saturday night at Balunda above Kaflepati in Taplejung. The clash resulted in injuries in both sides.<\/p>\n<p>NHRC&#8217;s press statement noted that it was necessary to timely identify the disagreement and disputes that may crop up during any development works and highlighted the need for adopting human rights-oriented approach to such undertaking.<\/p>\n<p>The government and the concerned parties have been urged to arrange free and effective medical treatment to those injured in the clash.<\/p>\n<p>NHRC is actively monitoring the situation in the wake of the clash. Earlier it had recommended the cable car construction after holding negotiation and forging an agreement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is the State&#8217;s responsibility to protect and promote the citizens&#8217; economic, social, cultural and environmental rights while delivering on their rights to developments,&#8221; the NHRC reminded.<\/p>\n<p>The disgruntled party involving local communities had submitted a memorandum to the NHRC, urging that that the Pathivara area, considered a site of cultural and spiritual significance for Limbu\/Yakthung community, be named Mukkumlung.<br \/>\nThey also pressed for cessation of the cable car construction works and prior consent from the local indigenous communities for carrying out development works.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kathmandu, Jan 26: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called for resolving the dispute surrounding the construction of a cable car in Pathivara area of Taplejung district.
