Agency, Oct 5: Real Madrid cruised to an easy victory in the Spanish La Liga, thanks to a brilliant brace from Brazilian winger Vinícius Júnior. The Spanish giants defeated Villarreal 3–1 on Saturday night to climb to the top of the league table.
Playing at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, Vinícius struck twice while Kylian Mbappé added another to seal the win for Madrid. Georges Mikautadze scored the lone goal for Villarreal.
After a goalless first half, Vinícius opened the scoring just two minutes into the second half, giving Madrid the early lead. In the 69th minute, he doubled his tally from the penalty spot to make it 2–0. Four minutes later, Mikautadze pulled one back for Villarreal to make it 2–1.
However, Villarreal’s hopes were dashed in the 77th minute when Santiago Mourino was shown a red card, reducing them to ten men. Taking advantage of the extra player, Mbappé found the net in the 81st minute from Brahim Díaz’s assist, securing Madrid’s 3–1 triumph.
With the victory, Real Madrid climbed to the top of the table with 21 points from eight matches, while Villarreal remain third with 16 points from the same number of games.
