UML statute convention kicks off on Friday: Discussion on party’s thoughts, organizational documents

Kathmandu, Sept 4: The 2nd statute convention of the CPN UML is beginning at Godawari, Lalitpur on Friday. The convention will whet debates on party’s thoughts.

The 3-day event is focusing on the internal life of the party. The representatives for the event from across the country are entering the Kathmandu Valley.

The statute convention is held between the two national general conventions of the party as per Clause 15 of the UML Statute, 2049 (along with amendment in 2078).

The political report and organizational proposals are other major documents featuring in the event significantly.

General Secretary of the party, Shankar Pokharel, informed that the convention would zero in on political report, statute amendment proposal and organizational report. “This convention discusses party’s thoughts, while the national general convention focuses on leadership,” he reminded.
The convention is being attended by a total 2,341 persons, including 2,026 representatives from the across the country.

The party has decorated the route to the venue- from Satdobato to Godawari of Lalitpur. There are some 18 entry gates in this section, according to Rajendra Gautam, chief of UML publicity department. The party flags and symbols are placed even in the electric poles along the roadway.

The Sunrise Meeting Hall is the venue for the event. The event has set the slogan aligning it with the national ambition of prosperous Nepal: Happy Nepali. Standing committee member of the party, Binod Shrestha, said the convention gate is linked to digital system.

There are four entry points at the Sunrise Hall. The first gate is used only for the party Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Other like office bearers, ministers, chief ministers from the party will enter the venue through second and the third gates.

One needs to scan the identity card to enter the venue. Life size images of Founding General Secretary of CPN, Pushpa Lal, former General Secretary Madan Bhandari and former Prime Minister Manmohan Adhikari are placed in the venue.

In the west corner of the venue, there will be life size images of Karl Marx, Angels and Lenin.
The stage will have two rows. Chairman Oli will be in the first row, while 18 others in the second as per hierarchy.

Chairman Oli is presenting the political report, Vice Chairman Bishnu Paudel the statute amendment proposal and General Secretary Pokharel the organization report.
Even the report relating to discipline, auditing, election, and advice would be presented in the convention.
