Agency, April 16: Punjab Kings secured a thrilling win in the Indian Premier League (IPL), defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 16 runs in a low-scoring encounter on Tuesday night.
Chasing a modest target of 112 runs, Kolkata was bundled out for just 95 runs in 15.1 overs. Ankul Raghuvanshi was the top scorer for Kolkata with 37 runs, while skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Andre Russell chipped in with 17 runs each.
Punjab’s bowling attack was spearheaded by Yuzvendra Chahal, who took 4 wickets for 28 runs in his 4-over spell. Marco Jansen added to the damage with 3 wickets, while Xavier Bartlett, Arshdeep Singh, and Glenn Maxwell claimed a wicket apiece.
Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat first at Mullanpur, Punjab Kings were bowled out for 111 runs in 15.3 overs. Prabhsimran Singh top-scored with 30 runs, followed by Priyansh Arya (22), Shashank Singh (18), Xavier Bartlett (11), and Nehal Wadhera (10).
For Kolkata, Harshit Rana impressed with 3 wickets, while Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine took 2 each. Vaibhav Arora and Anrich Nortje also chipped in with a wicket each.
With this win, Punjab Kings have moved up to fourth place on the points table with 8 points from 6 matches. Kolkata Knight Riders, having played one more game, remain in sixth place with 6 points.
