Sushila Karki sworn in as interim Prime Minister

Kathmandu, Sept 12: President Ramchandra Paudel administered an oath of office and secrecy to the newly-appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki as per Article 61 of the Constitution of Nepal.

Karki was sworn in as the Prime Minister a while ago at the Office of the President in Sheetal Niwas. The Karki-led interim government is given the mandate to conduct the general elections in six months. The special ceremony was attended by the Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut, foreign ambassadors to Nepal, Karki’s spouse, Durga Prasad Subedi, former prime minister, Baburam Bhattarai, Chief Secretary of Nepal government, Eaknarayan Aryal, and high level government officials.

Karki, who became able to set a history in Nepal’s political development as the first woman Prime Minister was also the first woman Chief Justice of Nepal. She has got huge support of the young generation, the GenZ.

She was the first woman Chief Justice of Nepal serving from July 11, 2016 to June 9, 2017. Karki is known as the bold and assertive judge, and has been strongly advocating for good governance even after her retirement.

It is expected that her appointment as Prime Minister would help address GenZ’s demands, build good governance and give a way out to present political adversity.
