Special envoy of Korean foreign minister holds high-level meetings

Kathmandu, Jan 21: Special Envoy of the Foreign Minister of the Korean government, Lee JeongKyu held high-level meetings during his two-day visit to Nepal.

He held separate meetings with the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, the Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security and the Foreign Secretary among others today to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The Kathmandu-based Korean Embassy shared that the special envoy’s visit is to prepare necessary plans for the expansion of relations in the next 50 years keeping into consideration the friendly relations of the last 50 years.

Last year, a meeting of the foreign ministers of Korea and Nepal was held at the United Nations General Assembly to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1974, Korea and Nepal have enjoyed close people-to-people relations for the last 50 years.

During the discussion, it was noted that the two countries have established very important relations in various sectors including economy, employment and tourism in the past.

During the meeting, the Special Envoy said that the Government of Korea has been supporting Nepal on the basis of Nepal’s needs including agriculture, health, employment training and climate change.

Korea has been treating Nepal as an important development partner for 15 years continuously. More than 110,000 Nepali workers have so far obtained opportunity to work in Korea through the Korea-Nepal Employment Permit System, which was signed in 2007. Employment has contributed to the economic development of both countries.
