Kathmandu, Aug 29: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has urged all MPs to attend the meeting as Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to address the Parliament today.
The Speaker urged the lawmakers to attend the parliament meeting for the full time today after the MPs from the opposition parties, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), walked out demanding a fair investigation into issues including the ‘visit visa’ scam.
Speaker Ghimire has appealed to the government, opposition, and all parties in the ruling coalition to create an environment for dialogue and bring the House back to its original rhythm.
“The opposition parties’ MPs have not participated regularly in the parliament meeting. I have taken the path of dialogue to reach an agreement. For this, I am also making efforts for an agreement today,” he said and expressed concern that the discussions and dialogue that is required between the government and the political parties for resuming the parliament meetings was not happening.
Stating that the tendency to ‘express dissent’ and walk out of the House as soon as the meeting begins can prove to be harmful in the long term for institutional democratic systems and parliamentary practices, the Speaker said that the Parliament is not only a platform for expressing dissent but also a place for building national consensus.
“We are in the process of passing the bills directly related to federalism for the purpose of strengthening the federal democratic republic. The serious and constructive debate of all honorable members is essential on these bills,” he said.
