Kathmandu, June 1 : Police have released seven individuals, including Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP-Nepal) Chair and former Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa, who were detained during a protest at Narayanchaur, Kathmandu, on Saturday.
According to Kathmandu Police spokesperson SP Apilraj Bohora, the group was arrested for attempting to breach a restricted area during the demonstration. They were released later in the evening, while one individual remains in custody.
Among the eight arrested was Dr. Rajiv Jha, a self-proclaimed Hindu activist from Rautahat, who, according to police, was intoxicated and verbally abused officers. He remains in detention.
Others released include Member of Parliament Deepak Singh, Shila Rana of Lalitpur, Rakesh Basnet of Bhaktapur, Ramchandra Lamichhane of Nuwakot, Binod Kapali of Tokha, and Saroj Timilsina of Bhaktapur.
The protest was part of ongoing demonstrations by RPP, RPP-Nepal, and other pro-monarchy groups across the Kathmandu Valley in recent days.
