Kathmandu, Aug 28: The entire preparations have been completed for Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s visit to China for his participation at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025 and the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
PM Oli is paying a visit to the People’s Republic of China from 30 August to 3 September at the cordial invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend the SCO Summit and the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated issuing a press release on Wednesday.
The high-level participation of Nepal at the SCO is expected to be a great opportunity for Nepal to further deepen Nepal-China relations and increase Nepal’s proactive role in multilateral cooperation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made briefings to the members of the delegation on Thursday about the PM’s visit at the Prime Minister’s residence in the presence of PM Oli. Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai and Chief of Protocol Kumarraj Kharel shared the details of the programme and managerial aspects of the PM’s visit.
Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to inform the House of Representatives (HoR) about the visit on Friday, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat said.
During his visit to China, Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi and Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as the heads of state and governments from different countries attending the Summit.
PM Oli will leave for Tianjin City of China on Saturday morning and is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the same evening, according to the Ministry.
Prime Minister Oli will address the SCO Summit in Tianjin on 1 September.
The Prime Minister will meet with Han Zheng, Vice President of the People’s Republic of China in Beijing on 2 September. The PM will return home on September 3.
The Prime Minister will be accompanied by his spouse, Radhika Shakya. The entourage of the PM will comprise Raghuji Pant, Minister for Education, Science and Technology; Badri Prasad Pandey, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation; Purna Bahadur Khadka, Member of the Parliament; Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada, Economic and Development Advisor to the Prime Minister; Chhabilal Bishwakarma, Member of Parliament; and the high-ranking government officials.
