Scientific research should be taken as national responsibility: Vice President Yadav

Kathmandu, April 10: Vice-President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav has stressed the need of collaboration of all sides to strengthen policy-making based on evidence, pointing out the need of accepting health research as the national responsibility rather than just an academic practice.

At an inaugural session of 12th National Summit of Health and Population Scientists in Nepal organised by Nepal Health Research Council here today, Vice President Yadav underlined that health researches would help provide a long-term concept about the causes of diseases, treatment options, population-health trends and socio-economic impacts.

He laid emphasis the need of keeping research in national priority to face challenges as increasing burden of non-communicable diseases, adverse effects of climate change, and inequalities arising from geographical and cultural diversity.

“It is necessary to encourage collaboration between traditional treatment process and modern scientific research,” he argued, adding the results of the research could be directly used in policy, programme and implementation.

Sharing that the constitution has guaranteed health as fundamental rights, Vice President Yadav mentioned that transforming scientific data in policymaking is the main spirit of the constitution.

“The research will help enhance practical skill by imparting latest knowledge to doctors, health workers and scientists and build an environment for collaboration between policy makers, educationists and development partners,” he underscored.
