Trishuli (Nuwakot), Feb 7: Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal emphasized the significance of the ‘election police’ in the upcoming House of Representatives election set for March 5.
During his visit to Nuwakot today to assess election security and the enforcement of the election code of conduct, Aryal remarked that the election police’s role in fostering a peaceful electoral atmosphere will be as crucial as that of major security forces.
After witnessing the training of election police at the District Police Office, he stated, “Even though they are volunteers, the demeanor, work ethic, and conduct of the election police contribute to making voters disciplined and accountable.”
Minister Aryal urged all involved to act responsibly and maintain high morale, asserting that exemplary practices among the election police would facilitate the conduct of fair elections in a conducive environment.
While observing the training, Home Secretary Raj Kumar Shrestha encouraged the election police to view their role in completing the elections as a historic opportunity.
The government has been equipping election police with services and facilities akin to those provided to the Nepal Police and have organized a training programme lasting forty working days, appointing them this week.
For the House of Representatives election, the Nepal Police has enlisted over 133,000 election police across the country, while the Armed Police Force has recruited approximately 15,000 election police.
