Revising Telecommunications Act, Policy essential: Minister Gurung

Lalitpur, Feb 20: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, said time has come to revise the Telecommunication Act and Policy. He shared that the ministry was working actively for the transformation of telecommunication through a new policy.

Minister Gurung said it during a programme organized by Techpana on telecommunication here on Wednesday. He said that the ministry would bring a new telecommunication policy within this year. “I will table a new bill on telecommunication this year at any cost,” he stressed.

Also the spokesperson of the government, Minister Gurung argued the spirit of technology generation should be paid heed while revising telecommunication. The 4G service would be reached across the country and 5G launched, he shared.

According to him, development activities slow if present generation does not move as per technological pace. “We must be abreast with digital pace,” Gurung reminded.

The government spokesperson also informed about the plan of expanding telephone and internet to each household along with necessary policy changes.

On the occasion, ministry secretary Radhika Aryal viewed innovative approaches were imperative to forward technological development including telecommunication services.
