Agency, April 11: In Spain’s La Liga, Real Madrid were held to a 1–1 draw by Girona FC on Friday night, slipping further behind league leaders FC Barcelona in the title race.
The match, played at the iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, saw both sides share the points after an evenly contested encounter.
After a goalless first half, Madrid broke the deadlock in the 51st minute when Federico Valverde found the net from a precise assist by Brahim Díaz. However, the hosts failed to hold onto their lead as Thomas Lemar equalized for Girona in the 62nd minute.
Despite efforts from both sides, neither team managed to score a winner, resulting in a point each.
With this result, Real Madrid remain second in the table with 70 points from 31 matches, now six points behind Barcelona, who have 76 points with a game in hand. Girona, meanwhile, sit 12th with 38 points from the same number of matches.
