Ramhari Khatiwada Resigns as State Affairs Committee Chair

Kathmandu, Aug 12 :  Ramhari Khatiwada has stepped down as chairperson of the House of Representatives’ State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, following a parliamentary probe that found serious errors in the report of the Civil Service Bill passed by the committee.

Khatiwada announced his resignation during Tuesday’s House meeting, stating that he had always supported introducing a cooling-off period for government employees and would continue to hold that position in the future.

He claimed the report on the bill was prepared against the committee’s legislative intent, insisting the error did not originate from him or the committee. However, he admitted failing to thoroughly review the final draft was a mistake, attributing the lapse to his trust in staff.

Alleging he had been a victim of “malicious politics,” Khatiwada said the parliamentary investigation had not found him guilty. “Since the word ‘responsibility’ has been used in the report, I accept my responsibility and gladly resign,” he declared.

He concluded by thanking colleagues and supporters for their assistance during his tenure.
