Agency, April 8: Rajasthan Royals climbed to the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) standings after securing their third consecutive victory, defeating Mumbai Indians by 27 runs in a rain-shortened match on Tuesday night.
After a delayed start due to rain, the contest was reduced to 11 overs per side. Batting first after losing the toss, Rajasthan posted an impressive 150/3 in their allotted 11 overs.
Rajasthan’s innings was powered by a superb knock from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who smashed 77 runs off just 32 balls, including 10 fours and 4 sixes.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi added a valuable 39, while skipper Riyan Parag contributed 20 runs.
For Mumbai, A.M. Ghazanfar claimed two wickets, while Shardul Thakur picked up one.
In reply, Mumbai Indians could only manage 123/9 in their 11 overs, falling well short of the target.
Sherfane Rutherford and Naman Dhir were the top scorers for Mumbai with 25 runs each, while Tilak Varma chipped in with 14. The rest of the batting lineup failed to make a significant impact, with no other batter reaching double figures.
Rajasthan’s bowling attack delivered a disciplined performance, with Nandre Burger, Sandeep Sharma, and Ravi Bishnoi taking two wickets each.
Jofra Archer and Tushar Deshpande chipped in with one wicket apiece.
With the win, Rajasthan Royals now have 6 points from 3 matches and moved to the top of the IPL points table.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians, with 2 points from 3 games, sit in seventh place.
