Rabindra Mishra released after Supreme Court order

Kathmandu, May 16: Senior Vice President of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Rabindra Mishra, has been released from custody following an order from the Supreme Court. Mishra was freed on Friday evening after the court issued the directive.

Following his release, Mishra addressed the media, asserting that he had not committed any crime against the state, organized crime, or criminal misconduct. “I have been released on bail, but I am not overly happy as the state appears to be targeting me,” he stated, citing the opinions of respected advocates who also believe the state has acted against him.

Mishra also expressed condolences to those who lost their lives during the March 28 incident and conveyed his sorrow over the damage to public property.

The leader was detained on the evening of March 28 after a monarchist demonstration at Tinkune, Kathmandu, escalated into violence. Police accused Mishra of being involved in inciting the unrest and took him into custody.

Authorities had been investigating Mishra under charges related to offenses against the state, organized crime, and criminal misconduct, extending his detention on eight separate occasions.

On Friday, a Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Dr. Kumar Chudal and Til Prasad Shrestha ordered Mishra’s release in response to a habeas corpus petition.
