Agency, May 5: Punjab Kings clinched a commanding victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday night, defeating Lucknow Super Giants by 37 runs to climb to second place on the points table.
Chasing a daunting target of 237 runs, Lucknow could only manage 199 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Ayush Badoni top-scored for Lucknow with a resilient 74 runs, while Abdul Samad contributed 45. Avesh Khan chipped in with 19, captain Rishabh Pant added 18, and David Miller managed 11 runs.
For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh starred with the ball, taking 3 wickets. Azmatullah Omarzai claimed 2, while Marco Jansen and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up one wicket each.
Batting first after losing the toss in Dharamshala, Punjab Kings posted a mammoth total of 236 for 5 in their 20 overs. Prabhsimran Singh led the charge with a brilliant 91-run knock, supported by captain Shreyas Iyer with 45, Shashank Singh with 33, Josh Inglis with 30, Nehal Wadhera with 16, and Marcus Stoinis with 15.
For Lucknow, Akash Singh and Digvijay Rathore took 2 wickets each, while Prince Yadav claimed one.
With this win, Punjab now have 15 points from 11 matches and sit at the top of the table. Lucknow, with 10 points from the same number of games, are currently in seventh place.
