Dourtmund, April 16: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and FC Barcelona have booked their places in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, despite suffering defeats in the second leg of their respective quarter-final ties on Tuesday night.
In a dramatic match at Signal Iduna Park, Barcelona were beaten 3-1 by Borussia Dortmund, but advanced with a 5-3 aggregate victory thanks to their dominant 4-0 win in the first leg. Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy was the star of the night, scoring a brilliant hat-trick to give the home side hope. Barcelona’s only goal came through an own goal.
Guirassy opened the scoring in the 11th minute to give Dortmund an early lead. He doubled the advantage with his second goal in the 49th minute. However, a 54th-minute own goal by Dortmund’s Ramy Bensebaini shifted the momentum slightly in Barcelona’s favor. Guirassy completed his hat-trick in the 76th minute, securing a 3-1 win for Dortmund on the night—but it wasn’t enough to overturn the first-leg deficit.
Meanwhile, in another quarter-final second leg clash at Villa Park, Aston Villa edged PSG 3-2. Despite the victory, Villa were eliminated from the competition with a 5-4 aggregate loss. Youri Tielemans, John McGinn, and Ezri Konsa were on target for the home side, while Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes scored for PSG.
PSG had previously secured a 3-1 win in the first leg, which proved decisive in sending them through to the semi-finals.
