Prime Minister Karki directs for prompt resolution of protesting nurses’ issues

Kathmandu, Oct 16: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has instructed the bodies concerned that the issues faced by the protesting nurses be resolved immediately.
Today, she summoned Health Secretary Dr Bikash Devkota and directed him to swiftly address the concerns of the nurses who are protesting.

In her capacity as Health Minister, she emphasized the need to take action to resolve the issues after thoroughly understanding the reasons behind the protest. The PM also directed for regular updates on the progress made.

Prime Minister Karki remarked that it is unacceptable to retain skilled professionals in the country while offering them extremely low wages, warning that failure to resolve their issues could lead to a significant number of workers migrating abroad.

Nurses from Manipal and Gandaki Medical Colleges in Kaski are currently protesting, seeking salaries that align with the fifth level as per the Ministry of Health’s directive.
Last December, the Ministry had established that the salary for nurses employed in all health institutions should be set at 34,730 rupees per month.
