PM Karki and UAE President hold cordial phone conversation

Kathmandu, March 7: Prime Minister Sushila Karki engaged in a telephonic conversation with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), this afternoon.

During their conversation, Prime Minister Karki denounced the assaults on civilian infrastructure within the sovereign territory of the UAE and expressed Nepal’s solidarity with the UAE during this difficult period.

PM Karki urged all involved parties to exercise utmost restraint, prevent any further escalation of tensions, and prioritize civilian safety.

Stressing that war is never a suitable means to achieve peace, Prime Minister Karki asserted that lasting peace can only be realized through diplomatic efforts, expressing hope for a prompt return to normalcy, according to her secretariat.

Also on the occasion, Prime Minister Karki extended her heartfelt thanks to the UAE government for ensuring public safety and for their care of all residents, visitors, and transit individuals, including Nepali citizens residing and working there.
She expressed profound sorrow to the tragic death of a Nepali citizen while on duty at Zayed International Airport on March 1, 2026.

Additionally, Prime Minister Karki voiced her concern after receiving reports of two Nepalis injured in the ICAD area of Abu Dhabi on March 5, 2026.

On the occasion, she praised the adept leadership of the UAE President for their ongoing efforts to promote peace and development through regional and global diplomatic initiatives.

Prime Minister Karki expressed hope that in the coming years, the bilateral relations would continue to flourish and strengthen through enhanced economic partnerships and connections among people.

Prime Minister Karki extended Nepal’s best wishes to the President, the UAE government, and the people of the UAE for the success in ensuring sustainable peace in the region.

On the occasion of holy Ramadan, she expressed heartfelt wishes for peace, justice, and harmony.

During the conversation, she expressed confidence that the current state of tension would not last long with a hope that space for new diplomacy would be created for peace.
She noted although Nepal is not a direct party to the current tension, it is experiencing the dire consequences.

Prime Minister Karki mentioned that, in the immediate term, there are concerns about the safety of Nepali citizens, and in the long term, Nepal is facing broad economic pressures including rising fuel prices, reduced investment flows, and increasing inflation.

She also expressed confidence that the passengers in transit would gradually be able to depart safely for their destinations in Nepal or third countries.

The Secretariat of Prime Minister Karki announced that the President of the UAE conveyed his appreciation to Prime Minister Karki for the solidarity and compassion that Nepal has demonstrated as a friendly nation during this challenging time.
The President of the UAE expressed profound sorrow and offered condolences in regard to the incident that took place on March 1, 2026, at Zayed International Airport, where a Nepali individual tragically lost his life while performing his duties.

He acknowledged the enduring cordial and amicable relations between Nepal and the UAE, commending the diligent nature and exemplary behavior of the Nepalese people.
Furthermore, in the course of their discussion, the President of the UAE highlighted that the ambassadors from both nations are diligently working to ensure the safety and welfare of Nepali citizens.

He also made his commitment to undertake all necessary measures to the safety of Nepali people.
