Kathmandu, Sept 7: General Secretary of the CPN (UML), Shankar Pokhrel, has said the party would be strong once the government’s activities are made effective.
General Secretary Pokhrel said it in response to the comments and suggestions of the groups which dwelt on various reports in party’s ongoing second statute convention at Godawari of Lalitpur today. He argued that the activities of the government should be made known to the people, connecting leaders and party policies and programmes at ward levels.
He asked youths and sister organisations of the party to focus on every community and class. Representation of youths is minimal at sub-national level, Pokhrel reminded. “The activity to involve youths under 40 in the party is very weak. Though we sought their involvement in party activities, no significant improvement was realized,” he shared.
According to him, though the party had ensured 33 percent women representation in the central committee, the women membership makes up only 26 percent in the party. The party cannot be capable without expanding party membership, the General Secretary reminded.
He assured that the written proposals of the group-wise discussions would be incorporated in the organizational report. The final report would be passed today based on the suggestions of Party Chairperson KP Sharma Oli during the closed session. Even a document would be prepared after further discussion to ensure that suggestions are not missed during response.
The General Secretary, however, said statute amendment proposal should be passed from general convention without making any changes in party’s statute. Chairman Oli also said the issues that are currently missed would be incorporated later.
