Oli, Ex-Home Minister Lekhak Walk Free After Court Order

Kathmandu, April, 9:  CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak were released from police custody on Thursday after authorities acted on a Supreme Court directive.

Kathmandu District Police Range Chief Ramesh Thapa said both leaders were freed on bail after receiving formal instruction from the government attorney, in line with the court’s order.

The two had been arrested on March 27 (Chaitra 14) in connection with allegations of a deadly crackdown during the Gen-Z movement held last Bhadra. Oli, who was prime minister at the time, was admitted to hospital the same day due to illness, while Lekhak was held at Police Battalion No. 2 in Maharajgunj.

Earlier this week, a Supreme Court bench of Justices Binod Sharma and Sunil Pokharel ordered authorities not to extend their remand, paving the way for their release.
