Kathmandu, July 20 : CPN-UML Chairperson and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli held a meeting with former President Bidya Devi Bhandari at the party’s central office in Chyasal on Sunday.
The meeting comes in the wake of Bhandari’s recent public announcement to re-enter active politics through the UML, sparking debate within the party’s top leadership. The issue was discussed in the party’s recent Secretariat and Politburo meetings, prompting today’s formal dialogue with the UML chair.
Chairperson Oli has maintained that Bhandari made her announcement without prior consultation with the party. According to party insiders, Oli reiterated this concern during the meeting.
At the Politburo meeting held on Saturday, a majority of members expressed reservations about a former head of state joining active party politics, arguing that such a move could undermine the dignity associated with the presidential office.
The UML Central Committee is set to convene from Monday, where Bhandari’s political involvement is expected to be a key agenda.
