NTB signs MoU with TikTok for promoting Nepal’s tourism

Kathmandu, Aug 19: The Nepal Tourism Board and the TikTok have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in a bid to promote Nepal as one of the top tourism destinations of the world. The stories on Nepal’s tourism destinations and activities will be shared via TikTok.

The agreement seeks to leverage the popular digital platform-TikTok- to showcase Nepal’s natural landscape, cultural heritages, festivals, cuisine and adventurous experiences to millions of digital audiences through the audiovisual contents.

During the MoU signing ceremony here on Tuesday, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, asserted that the newly signed agreement was not only a promotional event but a campaign to connect Nepal to new digital generation. Stating that present youths want to know real stories and have experiences before deciding to travel, the Minister expressed his confidence that the TikToK would be a useful platform to share and show stories of Nepal’s unique tourism destinations.
Acknowledging tourism as one of the major pillars of the country’s economic development, Minister Pandey believed that this partnership would directly benefit the rural community, small scale entrepreneurs and local guidance.

“We always introduced Nepal as the land of mountains and spirituality. But times have changed now. Stories visible in the digital platforms are becoming the first source of information for the globetrotters. That is why, the partnership with the TikTok has paved a path for Nepal to connect with the digital generation,” the Minister said.

Similarly, NTB’s CEO Deepak Raj Joshi noted that an important agreement was signed to show Nepal’s beauty to the world. According to him, Nepal’s untiring effort towards tourism promotion would be further bolstered by TikTok’s global reach. He argued that this collaboration would not only attract external tourism to Nepal but also provide an opportunity to the youths to portray their culture, festivities and experiences in a new way.

As per the MoU, the NTB will invite international travel content creators to Nepal and facilitate their travel to mountain, lakes, temples and homestays for them to create digital stories and promote Nepal’s tourism through TikTok.

Likewise, the TikTok will conduct a workshop on digital story-telling in Nepal where Nepali content creators will be imparted training on expanding audiences, brand collaboration and delivering quality content on par with the international standards.

TikTok’s Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for South Asia, Fardous Mottakin, expressed similar view as Minister Pandey that the partnership would contribute to tourism promotion of Nepal as, he added, that millions of people use TikTok daily to explore new destinations and experiences.
He said that it was a matter of honour for the TikTok to share a country like Nepal- rich in mountains, spirituality and diverse cultures- with the world through short videos. Mottakin viewed, “I am confident that this partnership will help put Nepal on the travel list of tourists around the world.”
The promotional campaign will be executed in phase-wise throughout the remaining months of 2025.
