Mumbai Indians Secure First IPL 2025 Victory with Dominant Performance

Agency, April 1: Mumbai Indians registered their first win of IPL 2025 with a commanding 8-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday night.

Chasing a modest target of 117 runs, Mumbai comfortably reached 121/2 in just 12.5 overs. Ryan Rickelton starred with a match-winning knock of 62 runs off 41 balls, smashing 5 sixes and 4 fours. Surya kumar Yadav added 27, while Will Jacks (16) and Rohit Sharma (13) provided valuable contributions. Kolkata’s Andre Russell was the only bowler to make an impact, claiming both Mumbai wickets.

Earlier, after being put to bat first at Wankhede Stadium, Kolkata Knight Riders struggled against Mumbai’s disciplined bowling attack. They were bundled out for just 116 in 16.2 overs. Angkrish Raghuvanshi top-scored with 26 runs, while Ramandeep Singh (22), Manish Pandey (19), and Rinku Singh (17) tried to stabilize the innings. However, skipper Ajinkya Rahane could only manage 11 runs, and the rest of the batting lineup failed to cross double digits.

Mumbai’s bowling attack was spearheaded by debutant Ashwani Kumar, who delivered a sensational performance, taking 4 wickets. Deepak Chahar chipped in with 2 wickets, while Trent Boult, Hardik Pandya, Vignesh Puthur, and Mitchell Santner claimed a wicket each.

With this victory, Mumbai Indians climbed to sixth place in the IPL standings with two points from three matches. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders, also with two points from three games, remain at the bottom of the table.
