MP Thapa Tears Budget Booklet in Parliament, Citing Bias

Kathmandu, June 19 :  CPN (Unified Socialist) lawmaker Amar Bahadur Thapa sparked controversy in the House of Representatives on Thursday after tearing apart the federal budget booklet during a parliamentary session.

Expressing strong dissatisfaction with the newly unveiled budget for the upcoming fiscal year, Thapa accused the government of crafting a budget that favored ministers and political leaders over the general public. “This is not a people-centric budget. It’s tailored to benefit ministers and party elites,” he said while justifying his action on the floor.

The incident drew attention from fellow lawmakers and is likely to fuel further debate over the equity and priorities of the government’s fiscal plan.
