Kathmandu, Oct 14: Two million 380 thousand farmers have been registered under the Farmer Registration Programme. The government has introduced the programme to provide necessary grant assistance to the farmers.
The Agriculture, Information and Training Centre has stated that farmers are being registered to provide them with facilities through an electronic system throughout the country with preparations from the state.
Officer at the Centre, Sanjiv Pandit, informed that farmers will be listed and classified into four categories based on their income status. According to him, livelihood farmers, small farmers, medium farmers, and large farmers will be identified and identity cards will be distributed to them.
Once farmers are connected to the electronic information system, it will be easier to provide facilities such as chemical fertiliser, seeds, grants, and services management.
“As per the 2021 census, approximately 4.1 million farmers have been counted, and the centre has planned to include them in the Programme. This number may fluctuate slightly by the time the programme is completed,” he said.
Pandit added that information of farmers across the country has been collected through the local level. He said that integrated statistics are being collected from farmers, including details of the produce, the area of land cultivated, and other related information.
He urged farmers to register their names in this programme, which was launched six years back from a ministerial-level meeting. Pandit also urged farmers to register their names because until a farmer’s identity is recognized, they will not be able to receive grants and services provided by the state.
